How to quit smoking weed occasionally for a week

Weed, also known as marijuana and Cannabis, is an addictive substance made from Cannabis sativa plant. The plant originates from Central and South Asian region. The main producers of this plant are Canada, China, Mexico, Thailand, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Spain. The plant is dried up and ground to create ‘weed’.  Weed is often mixed to create edible foods such as baked goods and candies. It can also be smoked, and drank as an extract.

A lot of studies have shown that weed has a lot of medical properties. In some countries, it is legally used to address the signs and symptoms of certain diseases such as seizures, diabetes, cancer and HIV/AIDS. However, studies also show that around 10% of the patients are left dependent on marijuana after the treatment.

As an addictive substance, marijuana causes feelings of happiness, hallucinations, reduces anxiety and increases appetite. The immediate effects of marijuana usually last only two to four hours. These effects are caused by tetrahyrocannabinol, a psychoactive ingredient. This is also the same ingredient that makes weed addicting.

Most experts would say that quitting weed is easier than quitting other addictive substances. The withdrawal symptoms of marijuana are milder. A person dependent on weed has to undergo a detoxification process. This process, as its name suggests, aims to flush out from the body all the toxins caused by the use of marijuana. The following are some of the tips on how to quit smoking weed occasionally for a week:

1) Throw away all supplies

This is a very obvious step of the detoxification process. However, there is still a need to include this to emphasize its importance. Aside from throwing all supplies, cut off contact from people who will remind you of weed (i.e. supplier, the person you take marijuana with etc)

2) Stay hydrated

Profuse sweating is one of the symptoms of marijuana withdrawal. It is therefore important to stay hydrated throughout the process. Drink at least two to three liters of water. Refrain from drinking sweet and sugary drinks.

3) Stay away from coffee and other caffeinated drinks

Insomnia is also one of the symptoms of marijuana withdrawal. The caffeine in coffee will only aggravate this symptom. It is best to eliminate these foods from your diet until you develop a regular sleeping pattern.

4) Stay away from other addictive substances

The fourth tip on how to quit smoking weed occasionally for a week is to refrain from using products with caffeine, nicotine and alcohol.

5) Exercise

Exercising causes the body to release happy hormones.

The detoxification process usually lasts for two to three weeks. The last day of marijuana intake is considered as the first day of the detoxification process. As earlier mentioned, a person withdrawing from weed will experience some symptoms like headaches, cravings, mood swings, gastrointestinal diseases, insomnia, profuse sweating and loss of sexual drive. The gravity of the symptoms depends on how long and how much marijuana an individual has been exposed to. These symptoms are usually at its peak during the first few days of the withdrawal process. The symptoms may persist but will gradually fade in weeks’ time.
