Is It Harder To Quit Smoking Cigarettes Or Weed?

Cigarettes and weed both have addictive compounds and chemicals. They are both smoked and inhaled and they are both bad for our lungs. Cigarettes have nicotine on them. Nicotine is a stimulant found in the Tobacco plant. This is the substance responsible for a person’s addiction and craving on smoking cigarettes.

Nicotine causes the body to feel a sense of bliss. A state of being relaxed and euphoric. Others may also feel a rush and an increased alertness or exhilaration. But these sensations may be due to the bad effects of nicotine in the body especially the heart.

Marijuana in the other hand contains Delta-9-Tetrahydrocanabinnol which is the chemical that gives the smoker the “high” factor. This chemical is responsible for a person’s addiction to smoking weed as it is to nicotine in cigarettes.

Delta-9-Tetrahydrocanabinnol gives the smoker mind and mood altering sensations. The “high” in smoking weed can increase or heighten the person’s physical senses which makes them feel like their walking on clouds.

Though these sensations may sound good, Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannbinol can also cause paranoia, mood disorder, memory loss and increase in appetite which can lead to obesity. Chronic smoking of weed can also cause several health problems especially on the person’s lungs.

Both habits can cause addiction. Addiction on substance is more difficult to quit or stop due to the body’s dependency on the substance and chemicals. A person that is addicted to a substance may not be able to function normally unless these chemicals are taken out or flushed out of their systems completely.

For a person to regain independence away from these substance, one must undergo detoxification as well as rehabilitation routines in order to manage withdrawals. Managing withdrawals may be difficult but medications are available to counter them. The mental aspect of the situation is more difficult to tackle than the physical withdrawal itself.

Be it smoking weed or cigarettes, quitting the habit relies on the person’s state of mind. Regardless of the habit, if you are determined to change things and prepared to face the challenges that comes with it then the journey would be a success.

When quitting a bad habit, it is wise to change the person’s environment. This would be more difficult for a person who wants to quit smoking cigarettes. Cigarettes are legal and are sold everywhere. There would be people smoking cigarettes around you almost every single day. This may tend to heighten your cravings that might turn you irritable at times.

Unlike cigarettes, changing the environment of a person quitting marijuana is much easier. People who smoke marijuana usually keeps to themselves or smokes with friends in a closed environment. Marijuana is also difficult to buy if you’re not a chronic user or if you do not have a supplier because it is illegal in most countries.

Keeping yourself away from people who smoke and sell marijuana is a lot easier than keeping yourself away from people and places who sell or smoke cigarettes. But no matter what barriers may block your way, if you are determined to kick the habit then nothing can stop you from doing so.
